At kettle, we partnered with American Express to reimagine OPEN Forum. Adopting agile methodology, we designed a digital ecosystem of products for busy small business owners and entrepreneurs. We constantly iterated our products releasing updates and new features every two weeks.
I worked on both the UX and UI for OPEN Forum's mobile app and the first ever Apple Watch app for American Express.

The interests of small business owners are ever-changing. They want quick access to relevant and timely content across a range of topics. This feature allows users to focus on what matters now and easily change it later.
Small business owners have busy schedules, but they take time to read the latest news and trends or research a problem. Users set what time they want to be notified to read their daily digest, making them more likely to open the app and engage with it regularly.
When users returned to an article, they were initially anchored to wherever they left off, but many found that experience disorienting. After closely observing users reading habits, our solution was to anchor users to the top of the article, with the option to pick up where they left off with just a tap.
Through user research, we found that small business owners typically skim through news and updates while they're on their way to the office or next meeting. They like to save articles or videos that look interesting to revisit later when they have more time. We added a save feature and optional notification to come back to saved articles. These features increased reengagement and delivered more value to our users.
The OPEN Forum Apple Watch app was the first ever Watch app for American Express. It delivered a notification to users wrist, reminding them to read their daily digest. Users could swipe through to read the headlines for that day, save an article for later, or continue reading the full article on their phones.
